What You’ll Need for Your Marquee Sign
- 1 Black Foam Core Board
- Gold Cardstock or Posterboard
- White Glue
- Cricut Machine (or a steady hand and scissors)
- String and Duct Tape (if you’re hanging it up!)
- Optional: Short LED Light Strip for that extra animated glow (totally worth it!)
How to Make Your DIY Moulin Rouge Sign
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut Your Letters
Use your Cricut and this Cut File on Etsy to cut out “Moulin Rouge” from your gold cardstock. No machine? No problem! Just print, trace, and cut – it’s a bit tedious but so worth it!

2. Plan Your Layout
Before you commit, lay the letters out on your black foam core. Play with the spacing until it looks just right.

3. Apply the Glue
Flip your letters over and apply a thin layer of white glue to the back. Pro-tip: Don’t use too much, or the paper might wrinkle (and we want smooth, Parisian glam!).

4. Press and Set
Carefully press the letters onto the foam core. Avoid pressing too hard so you don’t leave impressions in the board. Let it dry completely

5. Add the Glow (Optional)
For that real marquee effect, line the edges of your board with a short LED strip.

6. Hang it Up or Display
If you’re displaying on a wall tape a string loop to the back with duct tape and hang it on a command hook. I decided to display on my TV console edge.

Time + Cost
Time: 45 minutes
Cost: Under $10 (depending on LED light strip)
