Equipment

  • Heart-Shaped Cookie Cutter
  • Frying Pan

Ingredients

  • 4-6 Slices bread (white is best to hold color)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • syrup (for serving)
  • butter (for serving)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Bread

  • Lay out slices of bread and use your cookie cutter to press out heart shapes. It’s actually best to do this with slightly older bread as staler bread will hold its shape better.

Step 2: Mix

  • Beat eggs and mix with milk, extract, and cinnamon. Add drops of red food color until desired color is reached - keep in mind you may want to add a little more as the color fades during frying.

Step 3: Dip & Fry

  • Set the frying pan to medium heat. When the frying pan is ready, dip your bread slice into the egg batter on both sides before placing it on the frying pan. Let cook on each side for 1-2 minutes. When both sides are golden, remove from the pan with spatula.

Step 4: Serve

  • Serve your french toast slices with sliced fruit, whipped cream, powdered sugar or however you desire ...bon appétit!
